Zack Moran, an SCGA member through Olivas Links GC and the Golf Course Superintendents of Southern California, was selected President of the Association at its Annual Meeting, held Wednesday at Brookside GC. He succeeds Huy Dang.
Moran, 46, joined the SCGA Board in 2015. For more than a decade, he has served as president of the Water Quality Consulting Group which provides practical environmental services to golf courses in Southern California. His passion for sustainable practices in golf led him to serve for 10 years on the SCGA’s Public Affairs committee.
“I’m grateful to the SoCal golf community for providing a landscape for me to immerse myself in the humanity of the game,” Moran said. “I’m quite confident that with our excellent Board of Directors and exceptional staff, we will meet the challenges ahead.”
Joining Moran on the 2024-25 SCGA Executive Committee are Vice President Lynne Haraway, Valencia CC and Griffith Park GC, Secretary Tom Reul, Briarwood GC and Treasurer John Fischer, The Los Angeles CC. Moran will lead a diverse board representing a cross-section of clubs, backgrounds, skills and geography. Also serving on the 2024-25 board are:

Service Awards
Kevin Heaney, who received the Lynn Smith Award, honoring for his outstanding contributions and service to amateur golf in Southern California.
Ed Pernal, who received the Jim House Award recognizing the work of an exceptional SCGA volunteer.
Dan Cimino, who received the John Argue Founder’s Award, which was established to honor SCGA Junior Golf Foundation Founder and former SCGA President John C. Argue and recognize individuals for their continued commitment to the Foundation’s mission.
Industry Hills Women’s Golf Association, who was honored with the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation President’s Award, annually given to an SCGA member or member club who’s dedicated to furthering the mission of the Foundation.
Mike Rieken, who received the Newell Pinch Delegate of the Year Award for his service as an active Club Delegate who has demonstrated exceptional ability in working as a liaison between his club and the SCGA.
Victoria Medlin, who was awarded the Don Carlson Handicap Chair of the Year Award, recognizing her tireless work and effort put in at their club in the promotion and maintenance of the World Handicap System.
Player of the Year Awards
Torey Edwards was named SCGA Player of the Year for the second time (2020). He kicked off the summer season with a come-from-behind victory at the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship. Following that up with a second-place finish at the 113th California Amateur and a T5 showing at the 125th SCGA Amateur, Edwards would advance as far as the Round of 32 at the 43rd U.S. Mid-Amateur to wrap up an extraordinary season.
Jasmine Leovao was honored as SCGA Women’s Player of the Year for the first time. The junior from Long Beach State made a statement to wrap up her sophomore campaign with an individual title at the 2024 Big West Championship. That would set the tone for a successful summer, where she competed at the 10th SCGA Women’s Amateur (runner-up finish) and California Women’s Amateur (advanced to quarterfinals). To end the season, Jasmine out-battled her twin sister, Janae, in the championship match to take home the Women’s Match Play title.
Tim Hogarth, who already has three SCGA Player of the Year titles to his name, captured his second Senior Player of the Year crown. He advanced as far as the semifinals in the Senior Match Play Championship, logged a solo third place finish at the Senior Amateur Championship and advanced to the Round of 16 at the 69th U.S. Senior Amateur. He also teed it up against the pros this year a
s Hogarth qualified for the 44th U.S. Senior Open.
The Senior Women’s Player of the Year award will be decided upon the conclusion of the California Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
