The USGA’s staging of the U.S. Women’s Open at The Riviera CC made history in more ways than one, and most of it had to do with Southern California as this was the first time the event had been hosted in our region.
As a proud partner and extension of the USGA, the SCGA, comprised of staff, board, volunteers, former players and membership, played a big role in the championship (as evidenced by this shout-out during the trophy ceremony).

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

The SCGA staff, board members and volunteers served as Rules Officials, starters, standard bearers, media members, hole marshals and merchandise clerks throughout the entire week at the U.S. Women’s Open. Our support of the USGA is a key tenant of our partnership with the nation’s governing body of golf.

HOMETOWN HEROES

The field at the U.S. Women’s Open featured many homegrown talents and others with collegiate ties to Southern California. Most notably, four players earned their way into the championship through qualifiers administer locally by the SCGA. Conducting qualifiers for the USGA is a core service of the SCGA and it’s how your membership paves the way to the national stage at a local level.
Congratulations to Kaylyn Noh, Lucy Li, Katelyn Kong and Liqi Zeng for qualifying through an SCGA-administered event.
And congratulations to the 14 other players with SoCal ties who competed in the championship, including Allisen Corpuz (USC alumna) and Alison Lee (Valenica) who both had top-15 finishes.
WHAT’S NEXT? THE CURTIS CUP THIS WEEK!

In what USGA CEO Mike Whan called his shortest commute from one championship to the next, the USGA will conduct the Curtis Cup Match at Bel-Air CC, June 12-14. This event features the best women’s amateur golfers from the United States taking on the best women’s amateur golfers from Great Britian & Ireland.
If you want to keep the women’s golf party going, or you missed out on the U.S. Women’s Open, this is the ticket for you.
